The role of the advocate

The advocate profession is a free and independent profession. The advocate promotes and defends the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of individuals and legal entities.

Advocates:

  • have a quasi-monopoly on court representation of individuals
  • provide legal advice

The advocate is obliged, among others:

  • to respect the law, the Statute of the legal profession and the Code of ethics of the advocate
  • to respect the contract on legal assistance signed with the client
  • to apply all legal methods to defend the interests of the client
  • to pay in time the contributions to the budget of the Union
  • to undergo annual professional training courses of at least 16 hours
