The Council of the Union is composed of the President of the Union, the deans of the territorial bar associations and of advocates delegated by the territorial bar associations for a 4 year mandate.
The Council of the Union meets monthly, usually on the last Friday of the month. The Council can also be convened in an extraordinary session by the President of the Union or by one-third of its members.
The Council of the Union has the following main responsibilities:
- executes the decisions made by the Congress
- establishes the mandatory contributions and fees of the Union and approves the budget of the Union
- approves high value transactions of the Union
- issues guidance on the recommended advocates’ fees
- deals with matters concerning the exercise of the legal profession, except for those attributed to the Congress
- approves the key aspects concerning the training and professional development of advocates, including the training program for trainee advocates and the continuing education of advocates
- appoints the Secretary General, the Director of the Advocates’ Training Center and advocates members delegated to the National Council for Guaranteed Legal Aid
- approves the legal traineeship contracts and the discontinuation of the advocate’s activity
