The President

The President of the Union is elected by the Congress for a 2-year mandate. The same person can be elected as the President of the Union for no more than two consecutive mandates.

The President has the following responsibilities:

  • represents the Union
  • chairs the meetings of the Council of the Union
  • oversees the relationships between the Union and territorial Bars, as well as between different territorial Bars
  • provides support to territorial Bars in their relations with local or central authorities
  • ensures compliance with the privileges of advocates by the judiciary, prosecutorial bodies, and public authorities

The current President of the Union is Anatolie BARBACAR, elected by the Congress on January 21, 2026.

Anatolie BARBACAR has been practicing law since 2002. From 2015 to the present, he has served as a member of the Ethics and Disciplinary Commission. Since 2023, he has served as a trainer at the Lawyers’ Training Center.
