The President

The President of the Union is elected by the Congress for a 2-year mandate. The same person can be elected as the President of the Union for no more than two consecutive mandates.

The President has the following responsibilities:

  • represents the Union
  • chairs the meetings of the Council of the Union
  • oversees the relationships between the Union and territorial Bars, as well as between different territorial Bars
  • provides support to territorial Bars in their relations with local or central authorities
  • ensures compliance with the privileges of advocates by the judiciary, prosecutorial bodies, and public authorities

The current President of the Union is Dorin POPESCU, elected by the Congress on December 8, 2023.

Dorin Popescu holds a Ph.D. in Law, is a university lecturer and a member of the Criminal Law Department of the State University of Moldova. He is the co-author of the Sentencing Guide and the author of several other publications. He joined the Bar in 1996. Previously, he served as a member of the Licensing Commission (2011-2015), Vice Dean (2013-2015), and Dean (2018-2021) of the Chișinău regional Bar.
